Scarlett Johansson is being lined up to play a major role in The Batman Part II, according to reports.
As initially reported by Nexus Point News, and later corroborated by Deadline and Variety, Johansson is said to be close to becoming the sequel’s first big cast addition. There’s no word on who the A-lister will play, but Nexus has suggested that Johansson’s character could be a love interest of the titular vigilante, who’ll once again be portrayed by Robert Pattinson.
If Johansson signs on, she’ll join other returning faces from The Batman, including Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. However, Variety has indicated that Zoe Kravitz isn’t in line to reprise her role as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the DC comic book film, which is currently slated to land in theaters on October 1, 2027.
The cameras are due to start rolling on The Batman 2 in early 2026, so new cast announcements are to be expected at this stage of pre-production. Maybe we’ll find out if one of the Dark Knight’s most iconic allies will also be part of proceedings in the near future, then.
Who could Scarlett Johansson play in The Batman Part II?
Possible spoilers follow for The Batman Part II.
As I mentioned, the identity of Johansson’s character hasn’t been revealed yet.
Nevertheless, DC diehards have been quick to fancast the former Marvel superstar as various Batman-adjacent individuals since the news broke. Indeed, threads on r/DC_Cinematic, r/DCULeaks, and ResetEra are full of suggestions from intrigued users, while other social media platforms like X/Twitter are awash with similar theories.
So, who are the potential frontrunners? Many fans have immediately suggested Johansson would fit the bill as classic villain/anti-her Pamela Isley/Poison Ivy. However, Matt Reeves’ Bat-Verse doesn’t deal with the supernatural and/or fantastical side of the Caped Crusader’s lore. Unless big changes are made to the character’s origins and power-set, it’s highly unlikely that ‘ScarJo’ will portray Ivy.
Other notables characters in the frame include Gotham City reporter Vicky Vale and Talia ah Ghul, the latter of whom is not only an on-off lover of Batman, but – spoiler! – the mother of his son Damian Wayne. In the comics, he goes on to be the fifth iteration of Robin and, with rumors circling online that Robin might be part of proceedings, Johansson being cast as Talia isn’t such a big leap to make.
The biggest name on everyone’s lips, though, is Andrea Beaumont. First appearing in 1994 animated film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Beaumont is initially introduced as the fiancée of Bruce Wayne. As the story progresses, though, it’s soon revealed that she has her own secret identity in the form of a supervillain called Phantasm.
Given how grounded Reeves’ Bat-Verse is, Phantasm would be more than a suitable antagonist for The Batman 2. Beaumont’s romantic association with Wayne also means she’d fit the bill from a love-interest perspective.
Are we about to see a live-action take on Mask of the Phantasm, then? That would be cool, but it would put a dampener on rumors that The Batman Part II will feature one of the most recent additions to the superhero’s rogues gallery in The Court of Owls. I guess we’ll find out more once more cast announcements are made and/or filming gets underway.
