In case you hadn’t noticed, the price of RTX 5000 GPUs has been creeping upwards, and in some cases has spiked massively since the start of 2026. To ease such woes, a certain US retailer is bolstering stock of alternatives to these current, pricey Nvidia graphics cards.
Tom’s Hardware closely tracks GPU prices in the US, and our sister site has made an interesting finding in that there’s been a ‘major influx’ of RTX 4000 models at Walmart.
While these are last-gen graphics cards, they’re hardly outdated, and given the price tags on some of these older products, they can make attractive alternatives to Nvidia’s current-gen GPUs.

Walmart is bolstering its stock of models from the RTX 4060 all the way up to the RTX 4080 Super, we’re told.
Tom’s Hardware also highlights some substantial price drops that have happened overnight this week – but the bad news is that the particularly juicy discounts have already gone out of stock now.
There was an RTX 4080 Super at $1,019, for example, just a smidge over its original MSRP of $999 in the US, but it’s no longer available. (This graphics card dropped by some $480 from its inflated price earlier this week).
Another example was an RTX 4070 Super model for $579, a GPU that had dropped by over $300 this week, but there’s none of that left now, either. (You could still keep an eye on the listing, mind, to see if inventory returns).
Of the highlighted deals still in stock, you can grab an RTX 4070 Ti for $740, which is $60 off the MSRP (and it was at that recommended price earlier this week). The discounts on RTX 4060 models were either non-existent, or no good to begin with, and in that case, you’re definitely better off getting an RTX 5060 Ti (which Walmart has in stock at $380 currently, but that’s the 8GB model, of course).
Analysis: stock substitutes
It’s possible to find a decent enough bargain with last-gen Nvidia graphics cards, and the RTX 4070 Super at $579 deal is tempting, clearly offering better value than an RTX 5060 Ti (8GB) dollar-for-dollar.
However, there’s a twist that’s just happened, in that the RTX 5070 is now in stock for $599 at Walmart, which is about 10% over MSRP. In today’s climate, that’s a decent price for this mid-ranger. Stock is low at the time of writing, though, so this may not last. While there’s not a huge performance difference between the RTX 4070 Super and vanilla RTX 5070, remember that the latter does benefit from DLSS 4.5.
This is the fast-moving GPU world we live in now, with most of Walmart’s RTX 5070 stock being supplied by third-party marketplace sellers (of variable repute). So, it isn’t surprising that the US retailer is seemingly resorting to getting in last-gen Lovelace GPUs. presumably with the struggle to secure supply of RTX 5000 models.
Will we see more RTX 4000 GPUs turning up over the coming months, especially if issues around Nvidia RTX 5000 supply get worse? I wouldn’t rule out that possibility.
